STORY / GAMEPLAY Fight your opponents in One Vs One close quarter combat in a series of best-two-out-of-three matches. The objective in each round is to lower the opponent's vitality bar, before the time runs out. Apart from the classic attacking moves (kicks, punches) there are several combo attacks that will hurt an opponent faster. The gameplay is identical to many other 2D fighting games of the genre.
The game was originally developed in 1994 for the NeoGeo arcades, the NeoGeo MVS and the NeoGeo CD and later ported to the PlayStation, Windows, PlayStation Network, Wii (Virtual Console) and Xbox 360 (XBLA) systems.
The NeoGeo Pocket version retains most of the original arcade elements as well as graphics and sound but limited to the console's hardware capabilities. All of the original moves are kept intact (except of the Yuga character) and this is particularly impressive, given the original's sizable list of moves and the fact that the handheld NeoGeo has two instead of four buttons.
GRAPHICS / SOUND The graphics on the SNK's handheld console are nice and colorful (with more than 50 simultaneous colors) and include detailed backdrops taken (but stripped down) from the arcade original. The characters' models have smooth animations and quite impressivedetail.
To the game's sound, Samurai Shodown! 2 includes great in-game tunes while there are also a few sound effects when hitting the opponents.
